Empowering communities for a clean energy future

Community Power makes it easy to switch to renewable electricity at scale

Be part of the climate solution.

Control local energy costs.

Empower households and businesses with better energy choices.

Happy people

Communities are playing a pivotal role in the transition to clean energy.

With the clean electricity supply program, cities, towns, and villages form large buying groups for electricity. By pooling the buying power of residents and small businesses, communities can provide cleaner energy choices for consumers and stronger consumer protections.

Why it matters

Our Environment

The transition to clean energy is the most powerful thing a community can do to achieve carbon reduction.

Consumer Protection

Electricity markets can be volatile and come with their own set of risks, often landing consumers with high and unpredictable bills.

Municipal leaders can help provide a safer, and healthier environment for our families.

When we act as a community, we can accelerate the transition to a more sustainable future for all.

Benefits

The most impactful action a community can take to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels and lower their carbon footprint.

Transition to renewable electricity

Provide competitive rates and price stability for you and your neighbors

Protect consumers--increased choice, no bait and switch, no fees to join or leave at any time

Conserve natural resources and reduce air pollution

Foster green jobs and build the economy of the future

The program will also help you take advantage of local clean energy project development and collaboration opportunities, and secure funding for more clean energy projects through state and federal funding channels.

Impact

90% of participants receive renewable electricity

1.5 million MWhs of renewable electricity purchased

183,000 metric tons of avoided greenhouse gas emissions*

*The resulting carbon reductions is equivalent to what would be accomplished by the following actions:

18 million gallons of gasoline saved

2.6 million trees planted

What changes

• Eligible residents and small businesses automatically receive the municipally selected choice of electricity supply, usually from renewable electricity sources.

• Customers can easily leave or rejoin the program or change the percentage of renewable electricity they receive through the program, at any time without cost.

What stays the same

1. All the same choices remain available to consumers as before, with additional choices added in through the program.

2. The utility will continue to handle delivery of electricity, billing, customer service, maintenance, and repairs regardless of program participation.

3. There is no impact on the reliability of your electricity.
